Software Engineer III, Site Reliability Engineering

Google•Durham, NC
•$147,000 - $210,000

About The Position

Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) treats operations as a software problem. The team works to progress, protect, and provide for the software and systems behind Google’s public services, including Search, Ads, Gmail, Android, YouTube, and AppEngine, with a focus on availability, latency, performance, and capacity. SRE keeps important, revenue-critical systems running through disruptions such as severe weather, bandwidth outages, and configuration problems. Unlike traditional operations groups, SRE also has access and authority to fix, extend, and scale code to keep systems working and strengthen them against Internet-related challenges. The team includes people with systems and software backgrounds. SRE works across systems at many scales, from disk-driver I/O scheduling to continental-level service capacity, supporting products in production and a user population measured in billions. The role contributes to reliability and performance by working across the technology stack.
