Software Engineer II, AI Security

Tanium•Durham, NC
•$154,000 - $236,000

About The Position

Tanium is hiring a Software Engineer II to help build an AI Security solution for securing AI agents and the endpoints they run on. This full-stack role emphasizes backend engineering and involves designing and developing high-scale, distributed systems that provide customers with visibility into and control over agentic AI across their environments. The role offers an opportunity to shape a product at the forefront of AI security and contribute to technology used by large enterprises. The engineer will build services and integrations using LLM APIs, tool-calling frameworks, and the Model Context Protocol (MCP), as well as retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and supporting data pipelines. Work includes developing and maintaining Tanium products with an agile team, designing and testing product ideas from the ground up, and delivering services that support security, operations, and auditing. Teams also work on shared components for endpoint data consolidation, time-series data used in dashboards and reporting, and GraphQL access for external integrations. Tanium describes itself as the Autonomous IT company. Its Tanium Atlas operating system combines the Tanium Autonomous IT Platform with real-time intelligence, agentic decision-making, and autonomous execution to help IT and security operators detect, decide, and remediate across endpoint environments. Tanium emphasizes collaboration, respect, diversity, and inclusion. This is a full-time position with an annual base salary range of $154,000 to $236,000, plus equity awards and a benefits package.
