About The Position

GHX is hiring a Software Engineer to join the Rules and Actions team, which owns the rules engine at the core of the GHX Exchange platform. The engine evaluates routing and business rules against document events and runs resulting actions, including routing, notifications, and document processing, for healthcare supply chain transactions. The role reports to the Manager of Engineering. The engineer will build and enhance the rules execution service, implement rule types and actions using shared frameworks and established patterns, and support EventBus-driven rules and Intelligent Business Rules capabilities. The role also involves developing document-handling and integration actions, writing automated tests, shipping changes behind feature flags, and contributing to monolith decoupling and Java-version migrations. Work is performed with guidance from senior engineers and in collaboration with cross-functional partners.

  • BS in Computer Science or similar work experience.
  • At least 2 years developing solutions with Java and J2EE technologies, including Spring and Maven.
  • Working knowledge of cloud technologies.
  • Experience with databases.
  • Exposure to a rules engine and/or event-driven architecture, such as event buses or publish/subscribe messaging.
  • Familiarity with AI tools and willingness to learn emerging technologies.
  • Understanding of design best practices, including performance and scalability.
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
  • Ability to work independently on well-defined tasks and collaboratively as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Build and enhance features in the rules execution service, which consumes EventBus document events, runs the rule engine, and publishes outcomes such as route-found and no-route-found.
  • Implement rule types, specifications, and actions using the shared rules framework and Exchange extension libraries, following established patterns.
  • Support EventBus-driven rules, including MongoDB-backed rule definitions, event matching, and rule caching.
  • Contribute to Intelligent Business Rules capabilities, including business-rule statistics and change-request persistence.
  • Develop and maintain document-handling and integration rule actions with guidance from senior engineers; ship changes behind feature flags.
  • Write JUnit 5 and Mockito tests and help with monolith decoupling and Java-version migrations.
  • Design and implement scalable, secure, maintainable, flexible, reusable, and efficient software aligned with business needs.
  • Translate ideas into clear, high-quality code under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Contribute to technical design for features and stories, document work, and follow IT control policies.
  • Collaborate with the team and cross-functional partners to address technical dependencies, review ideas and concerns, and deliver high-quality products.
