About The Position

Latitude AI is developing automated driving technology as a subsidiary of Ford Motor Company. The Virtual Test Ecosystem (VTE) team builds and operates simulation and resimulation workflows that support large-scale safety and performance testing before in-vehicle testing. Its processing framework uses open-source software and cloud-provider services and is designed to run across cloud environments and on-premises infrastructure. The Software Engineer II will improve the simulation and resimulation framework and the applications built on it, primarily using Python and AWS and/or GCP services. The role includes benchmarking and analyzing system performance, identifying scalability bottlenecks, building dashboards, and implementing efficiency improvements. The engineer will work with users across autonomy, systems, testing, and other teams to make the framework intuitive, well-documented, and extensible. The role also contributes to log storage and search, automated indexing of relevant actors and interactions, dataset coverage, and tools that make it easier for developers to add and implement metrics for analyzing vehicle performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field and 4+ years of relevant experience; alternatively, a master's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience, or a PhD.
  • Expertise writing efficient, well-documented, and well-tested Python code.
  • At least 2 years of experience writing scalable applications that execute in a cloud or HPC environment.
  • At least 2 years of experience writing software that interacts with AWS and/or GCP services.
  • Familiarity with NumPy and scientific programming.
  • Willingness and desire to learn how onboard and offboard components interact and propose improvements to how developers and testers work with both systems.

Nice To Haves

  • C++ development experience.
  • Experience with Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

  • Improve the simulation and resimulation cloud framework and applications that run on it.
  • Develop Python software that works with open-source packages and AWS and/or GCP services.

  • Create dashboards to track and summarize performance information, and implement solutions that improve efficiency.
  • Engage with framework users to understand their needs, improve usability, and address misuse or misinterpretation of results.
  • Make the framework well-documented and self-service so other teams can extend it, while providing support and answering questions.
  • Contribute to systems for storing and searching logs, automating indexing of relevant scene actors and interactions, and determining dataset coverage.
  • Improve the framework to make it easier for developers to add metrics, and implement metrics as needs arise.
