Software Engineer II – Test Automation

BLUE ORIGINSeattle, WA
$134,961 - $188,945

About The Position

This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable. New Glenn is Blue Origin's orbital launch vehicle, and all avionics equipment that flies on it must be verified before it leaves the ground. As part of a hardworking team of engineers, you will be an individual technical contributor on the Chassis Tester Software team — the engineers who build the software stack that makes that verification possible. This is a test automation role in the traditional sense. You will integrate a series of tools, scripts and sequences for hardware-in-the-loop test frameworks, build the operator-facing tools that run on the test floor, and own the automated result-checking infrastructure that determines pass/fail for flight-critical hardware. This software is critical for the operation and sustainment for the test equipment and required to support production level testing for the New Glenn Avionics Organization.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
  • 2+ years of professional software coding and engineering experience.
  • Proficiency with Python
  • Proven experience developing software on a Redhat OS
  • Experience with the networking stack — socket programming, UDP/TCP and command transport, packet capture and parsing.
  • Git workflow discipline, CI/CD

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with avionics test environments — automated test equipment (ATE)
  • Knowledge of acceptance and qualification test processes in an aerospace hardware development lifecycle
  • Familiarity with Processor-in-Loop (PIL) design and deploy for test
  • Mastery for Python programming.
  • Self-Starter and highly proactive.

Responsibilities

  • Work with internal customers to capture requirements, negotiate scope, and deliverables to meet Program milestones.
  • Design and implement production-automation for test instruments
  • Work directly with avionics hardware engineers to understand instrument behavior, define test sequencing in conjunction with the test engineer.
  • Architect and extend automated test execution frameworks
  • Implement check logic, pass/fail criteria, limit management, and structured report generation for acceptance and qualification test campaigns

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance, paid parental leave, short and long-term disability, 401(k) with a company match of up to 5%, and an Education Support Program.
  • Stock Options for all regular employees (working at least 20 hours/week)
  • Paid Time Off: Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company-paid holidays.
