About The Position

RTX’s Collins Aerospace Military Avionics organization supports pilots, aircraft, and functions with swift, elite, and resilient products, requiring high standards and quality. This role is for individuals interested in aerospace and defense, thriving in a fast-paced, complex environment, and meeting the needs of those in combat. Collins Aerospace is seeking Software Engineer II candidates for its Military Avionics Flight Management department in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Teams consist of 6-10 cross-functional engineers working in an AGILE environment, focusing on the design and development of flight management software applications. The team culture is highly collaborative and engaged, valuing customers, products, and people. The position may require professional working hours extending beyond a typical 7:30am to 4:30pm workday or a 40-hour work week. The product supported is CAAS/Flight 2 Flight Management Solutions, signature products for Military Avionics as part of the Collins Integrated Avionics System, providing FMS and Tactical Communication capabilities.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field
  • 2+ years of experience with C, C++, DOORS, ADA, and/or Python
  • 2+ years of experience in a Software role
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance (Classified as a US Person) if needed after day 1

Nice To Haves

  • Industry Experience of Software Lifecycle Development (Design, Requirements, Integration, Test)
  • Pilot/Avionics Experience (i.e. Private Pilot, Aircraft Maintenance, DO-178 Certification)

Responsibilities

  • Work within a team of Systems and Software engineers to design, develop, and test software features for flight management systems that are integrated into military helicopters and planes
  • Improve knowledge of Software Engineering and Flight Management Systems
  • Integrate soft skills (leadership, communication, coordination, proactiveness) into a dynamic environment that provides quality and timely products to internal and external customers
  • Travel (domestic and international <10%) as needed
