About The Position

RTX’s Collins Aerospace Military Avionics organization supports swift, elite, and resilient pilots, aircraft, and functions, requiring high standards and quality products for successful missions. This role is for individuals ready to join the aerospace and defense world, dive into a fast-paced and complex environment, and meet the needs of those in combat. Collins Aerospace is seeking qualified candidates for Senior Software Engineer roles in the Military Avionics Flight Management department in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Teams are cross-functional, working in an AGILE environment (6-10 people) focused on designing and developing flight management software applications. The team culture is highly collaborative and engaged, valuing customers, products, and people. The position involves working on CAAS/Flight 2 Flight Management Solutions, signature products for Military Avionics as part of the Collins Integrated Avionics System, fielded on thousands of aircraft, with specific capabilities including FMS (Flight Management Systems) and Tactical Communication. This position may require professional working hours beyond a typical 7:30am to 4:30pm workday or a 40-hour work week.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.
  • 4+ years of experience with C, C++, DOORS, ADA, and/or Python.
  • 4+ years of experience in a Software role.
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance (Classified as a US Person) if needed after day 1.

Nice To Haves

  • Industry Experience of Software Lifecycle Development (Design, Requirements, Integration, Test)
  • Pilot/Avionics Experience (i.e. Private Pilot, Aircraft Maintenance, DO-178 Certification)

Responsibilities

  • Work within a team of Systems and Software engineers to design, develop, and test software features for flight management systems that are integrated into military helicopters and planes
  • Master your knowledge of Software Engineering and Flight Management Systems
  • Integrate soft skills (leadership, communication, coordination, proactiveness) into a dynamic environment that provides quality and timely products to internal and external customers.
  • Travel (domestic and international <10%) as needed.
