About The Position

Forge Nano is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Software Engineer I to support the development, testing, documentation, and deployment of software used in Forge Nano’s semiconductor Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) production equipment. Reporting to Senior Engineer, this role contributes to software feature development, equipment integration, laboratory testing, and continuous improvement of industrial software systems. The ideal candidate is an early-career software engineer with a strong interest in industrial automation, controls, semiconductor equipment, and software development. This individual will work closely with software developers, equipment engineers, and cross-functional teams to implement software enhancements, support equipment operations, develop technical documentation, and ensure reliable software performance across Forge Nano’s product platforms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Industrial Automation, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 0-2 years of relevant software engineering experience, including internships, co-op assignments, academic projects, research projects, or other applicable experience.
  • Experience with at least one object-oriented programming language; C# preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
  • Ability to learn complex industrial software systems and equipment operations.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to C#, .NET, WPF, database applications, or Windows desktop software development.
  • Familiarity with PLC programming, industrial automation systems, or industrial communication networks.
  • Experience using Git, Agile development methodologies, and issue tracking tools.
  • Exposure to laboratory, manufacturing, robotics, semiconductor, or hardware integration environments.
  • Experience supporting automated equipment, controls systems, or industrial software applications.
  • Understanding of software testing methodologies and quality assurance practices.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and test well-defined software features, enhancements, and bug fixes using C#, .NET, WPF, database technologies, and control logic under technical guidance.
  • Develop unit tests and participate in software verification activities to ensure product quality and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot software defects, document findings, and support corrective actions.
  • Participate in code reviews, design reviews, and team development activities.
  • Maintain software requirements, design documentation, test plans, release notes, and other engineering records.
  • Utilize Git, issue tracking systems, and standard software development practices to support project execution.
  • Communicate project progress, technical challenges, and risks to project stakeholders and engineering leadership.
  • Support equipment integration, laboratory testing, commissioning, and software deployment activities.
  • Learn and operate Forge Nano’s Windows-based semiconductor equipment Human Machine Interface (HMI).
  • Develop a working understanding of equipment hardware, subsystems, controls architecture, and process workflows.
  • Assist with validation and verification activities associated with software updates and equipment functionality.
  • Execute manual test cases and document test results to support product releases.
  • Collaborate with software developers and equipment engineers to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues.
  • Participate in system startup activities and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Observe and document software and hardware interactions to support accurate operating procedures and technical documentation.
  • Capture screenshots, operating workflows, configuration procedures, and troubleshooting information.
  • Identify undocumented functionality, workflow gaps, usability concerns, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Assist in developing release notes and revision-controlled documentation.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of technical documentation used by engineering, manufacturing, and customer-facing teams.
  • Contribute to efforts that improve software quality, user experience, and operational efficiency.
