About The Position

We are seeking a Software Engineer to join our Navy Programs team. In this role, you will support the development, integration, testing, and maintenance of mission-critical software systems supporting U.S. Navy submarines, aircraft carriers, and shore-based platforms. You will play a key role in supporting operational readiness through the delivery of secure, maintainable, and reliable software solutions. The ideal candidate will bring experience in C++ development on Linux, including modern C++ (C++11 and newer), unit testing, and sound software engineering practices. This position is well suited for an engineer with one to three years of experience who wants to deepen their C++ skills, enjoys solving technical problems, and works well with product leads and testers in an agile team. The work directly supports U.S. Navy submarine combat systems. This is a full-time position based in Middletown, RI. The position requires U.S. citizenship and an active DoD Secret Clearance. The annual base salary is $85,000 – $105,000, with final compensation based on experience and skills.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship and an active DoD Secret clearance at time of hire.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, plus 1–3 years of professional software development experience using one or more of the following languages: Java, C++11 (or newer), or Python.
  • Working knowledge of C++11 or newer and fundamental software engineering practices.
  • Familiarity with Git-based version control and code review workflows.
  • Familiarity with Linux based development environments.
  • Familiarity with agile software development methodologies and collaborative team environments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively within technical teams and customer environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing/working in a Linux environment, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
  • Experience containerizing applications with Docker or Podman.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes or another container orchestration platform.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated build, test and deployment workflows.
  • Scripting experience in Python or bash.
  • Ability to learn new technologies and take on increasing responsibilities.
  • Experience working within a small agile team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Designing, developing, and maintaining C++ applications supporting U.S. Navy submarine combat systems.
  • Building and packaging software applications as containers for deployment to a Kubernetes-based runtime environment, working with senior engineers on configuration and deployment.
  • Developing unit tests for software components and supporting test coverage as features evolve.
  • Executing components and integration testing in lab environments troubleshooting defects identified during test.
  • Collaborating with product leads and test engineers to understand requirements, resolve issues and deliver software within an agile development environment.
  • Producing clear, maintainable, well-documented code that follows program coding and configuration management standards.
