About The Position

Built is seeking a Software Engineer I - Internal Tooling, a role designed for a recent graduate eager to make an immediate impact. This position is a unique opportunity to build the operational backbone for our implementation team, focusing on automations, workflows, and tools that will significantly enhance efficiency. The successful candidate will own outcomes that directly influence Time-to-Value and revenue, working in an environment that embraces ambiguity and rapid iteration. This is not a junior support position; it's a chance to be the sole coder responsible for critical internal systems, learning the construction finance business as you build solutions. The role offers significant autonomy and is positioned as the fastest path to gaining extensive experience in a fast-growing startup environment.

Requirements

  • Recent Computer Science graduate or software engineer with up to ~1 year of experience (including internships, co-ops, or substantial academic projects).
  • 0–2 years of professional or serious personal project experience (bootcamp counts; passion projects count).
  • Ability to write clean code in any modern language.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ownership.
  • Genuine curiosity about the business and the impact of automation.
  • Speed and shipping bias over perfection.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with AI/LLM tools or agentic frameworks (even a personal project).
  • Experience with APIs and integrations.
  • Ability to identify inefficiencies and solve them independently.

Responsibilities

  • Build internal tools and automations using AI and agentic frameworks (Claude, LLMs, MCP servers) on top of Built's bapps infrastructure.
  • Ship fast and iterate—if it works and people use it, it's good. If it doesn't, kill it and build the next thing.
  • Work from real operational pain points identified by the implementation team.
  • Own the full stack: design, build, deploy, measure, and iterate based on actual usage.
  • Learn the real estate finance domain by shipping solutions.
  • Partner with product and engineering to understand and leverage the company's architecture.

Benefits

  • Equity in the form of stock options
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Unlimited PTO policy
  • Learning Grant program to support ongoing professional development
  • 401k with match and expedited vesting [US ONLY]
