Software Engineer I - Internal Tooling

Built TechnologiesNashville, TN
$75,000 - $115,000Remote

About The Position

Built is seeking a Software Engineer I - Internal Tooling, a hungry engineer fresh out of school who wants to make an impact from day one. This is a solo role focused on building the operational nervous system for the implementation team, creating automations, workflows, and tools to enhance efficiency. The role involves owning outcomes that directly impact Time-to-Value and revenue, working in ambiguity, shipping fast, and learning the construction finance business. This is not a junior support role; the engineer will be the sole coder responsible for developing internal tools and automations.

Requirements

  • Recent Computer Science graduate or software engineer with up to ~1 year of experience (including internships, co-ops, or substantial academic projects)
  • 0–2 years of professional or serious personal project experience (bootcamp counts; passion projects count)
  • Ability to write clean code in any modern language (you'll pick up our stack)
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ownership - you'll get a problem statement, not a spec
  • Genuine curiosity about the business - why we're automating this, what it enables downstream
  • Speed and shipping bias over perfection

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on with AI/LLM tools or agentic frameworks (even a personal project)
  • Experience with APIs and integrations
  • Ability to identify inefficiencies and solve them independently

Responsibilities

  • Build internal tools and automations using AI and agentic frameworks (Claude, LLMs, MCP servers) on top of Built's bapps infrastructure
  • Ship fast and iterate—if it works and people use it, it's good. If it doesn't, kill it and build the next thing
  • Work from real operational pain points (your team will tell you exactly what's broken)
  • Own the full stack: design, build, deploy, measure, iterate based on what actually gets used
  • Learn the real estate finance domain by shipping solutions, not by reading docs
  • Partner with product and engineering to understand our architecture and use it

Benefits

  • Equity in the form of stock options
  • Medical insurance
  • Dental insurance
  • Vision insurance
  • Unlimited PTO policy
  • Learning Grant program to support ongoing professional development
  • 401k with match and expedited vesting [US ONLY]
