About The Position

Mistral is building a sovereign AI cloud for Europe. The Cloud Platform team develops the compute orchestration, Kubernetes, bare metal, storage, networking, and datacenter systems that support AI workloads on Mistral-owned infrastructure. The team is scaling toward a gigawatt of compute across Europe by 2030.

The Software Engineer (Golang) will build secure, isolated, network-controlled sandbox environments for AI agents and reinforcement-learning workloads. The role focuses on balancing strong isolation with low latency and fleet-scale operation. The systems will provide the runtime environments for customers developing AI software on Mistral's infrastructure.

Requirements

• Deep knowledge of Linux internals, including namespaces, cgroups, seccomp, and virtualization; experience with microVMs such as Firecracker is ideal.
• Production experience shipping systems in Go.
• Understanding of network isolation at the packet level, beyond firewall rules.
• Performance profiling and optimization instincts, including understanding syscall costs.
• At least 5 years of experience building backend or infrastructure systems.
• Experience partnering with product, design, and business teams to ship software to real users.
• A low-ego, team-first mindset.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with microVMs of the Firecracker class.

Responsibilities

• Build the sandbox isolation layer using microVMs or containers, including namespaces, cgroups, seccomp, and snapshot-and-restore capabilities.
• Own the security boundary for systems that execute customer code that may be untrusted.
• Scale sandbox fleets by improving creation latency, density, and lifecycle management for thousands of concurrent environments.
• Write Go and own architecture and difficult implementation decisions.
• Partner with Product Managers to turn frontier research needs into shippable primitives.
