About The Position

Mistral is building a sovereign AI cloud for Europe, running on its own infrastructure, network, and datacenters. The Cloud Platform team builds the systems behind that cloud, including compute orchestration, Kubernetes, bare metal, storage, networking, and datacenter operations. In this role, you will build storage for Mistral’s cloud, including block, filesystem, and object storage for training runs, sandboxed workloads, and general compute. You will help determine which technologies to build or buy and develop services in Go, including S3-compatible object storage, tiering, backup and recovery, and caching layers. The storage systems will support large-scale European compute infrastructure. You will own the storage data plane and plan capacity across datacenters and failure domains. You will also work with Product Managers to shape the storage roadmap and weigh technical and business tradeoffs.

Requirements

Experience building storage systems such as object storage, block storage, or distributed filesystems.
Deep understanding of distributed-systems fundamentals, including durability, consistency, replication, erasure coding, and failure domains.
Experience shipping production systems in Go, or systems-engineering experience in C++ or Rust with readiness to write Go daily.
Comfort working with HDD, SSD, and NVMe tiers and understanding their economics.
At least 5 years building backend or infrastructure systems.
Experience partnering with product, design, and business teams to ship software used by real users.
A low-ego, team-first mindset.

Responsibilities

Build block, file, and object storage for training, sandbox, and general compute workloads.
Design and write storage services in Go, including S3-compatible APIs, tiering, backup and recovery, and caching layers.
Own the data plane, including allocation, duplication, tiering, backup, and recovery.
Plan capacity across datacenters and failure domains at petabyte scale.
Partner with Product Managers to shape the storage roadmap and make technical and business tradeoffs.
