About The Position

WRITER is hiring a software engineer to build the secure, scalable foundation for generative AI solutions used by enterprises. The role is for a well-rounded engineering generalist with a strong focus on generative AI and a whole-systems approach to architectural design. The engineer will own projects from proposal through deployment and help build products that enable enterprise adoption of AI. This is a hybrid role based in WRITER’s San Francisco, New York City, or London hubs. The position is open at multiple levels, with compensation scaled to experience, expertise, and role scope. It reports to an engineering director or a senior engineering manager.

Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, with a strong emphasis on Python development in production environments.
  • Experience building and deploying generative AI applications using LLMs, vector databases such as Pinecone, Weaviate, or pgvector, and modern open-source agentic frameworks.
  • Practical experience with microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, and Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of modern web technologies, including FastAPI and Asyncio, and database systems such as PostgreSQL.
  • Hands-on experience using AI developer tools such as Claude, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot.
  • Exposure to enterprise architecture, including experience implementing IAM, SSO, SAML, OAuth, OIDC, or RBAC; applying security best practices; or building enterprise administration and billing services.
  • Collaborative approach to working with cross-functional teams and mentoring engineers.
  • Ability to tackle complex technical challenges, suggest improvements, and take accountability for delivering production-quality code.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop robust, secure, and scalable generative AI services and applications using Python and modern frameworks.
  • Build and optimize high-performance, low-latency APIs and microservices to integrate AI models and agentic workflows into the core platform.
  • Make system design decisions and own the architecture of core platform components from proposal through production deployment.
  • Implement and maintain responsive user interfaces using technologies such as React and TypeScript.
  • Communicate changes, plans, and proposals to cross-functional teams, and collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and DevOps engineers.
  • Partner with DevOps teams to build continuous deployment, logging, and monitoring systems for performance, security, and reliability across distributed workloads.
  • Mentor other engineers and take accountability for delivering high-quality, resilient, and scalable code from conception to production.

Benefits

  • Generous paid time off and company holidays.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and their families.
