Software Engineer, Full Stack (Data & Video Analysis)

SpaceX•Hawthorne, CA
•$125,000 - $195,000

About The Position

The Vehicle Analysis Tooling team builds applications used by production, test, and flight. This role owns the full path from platforms that ingest and process high-volume engineering data—including telemetry, sensor data, and video—to the tools and interfaces engineers use to review analysis and act on it, as well as the infrastructure those applications run on. Depth in data, video, or applied models is sufficient to start; learning other areas quickly enough to deliver software is part of the role. The engineer will work directly with vehicle, propulsion, test, manufacturing, and inspection engineers to solve important analysis problems. The role includes developing internal tools and web interfaces, improving data-heavy application performance, integrating statistical models, computer vision, or large language models into review workflows, and taking prototypes into production. It also includes managing application infrastructure and operating production services, including responding to failures and restoring service.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, or another scientific discipline, or at least 2 years of professional software experience in lieu of a degree.
  • At least 1 year of full-stack development experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience writing Python for data processing, services, or user-facing application code.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with video platforms and infrastructure, including ingest, storage, transcoding, playback, and review of high-volume engineering video.
  • Strong familiarity with large language model tools and capabilities, including how they work and where they can be used, or experience applying them to computer vision problems.
  • Experience with computer vision libraries such as OpenCV or Ultralytics, machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch or scikit-learn, or serving models for inference, including live inference.
  • Experience with the Python data stack, including Pandas, NumPy, and SciPy, and relational databases such as PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with time-series or other signal data, including cleaning, transforming, and analyzing it.
  • Experience profiling and optimizing data-heavy software, including query latency, memory use, throughput, or interactive rendering of large datasets.
  • Experience with Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, HPC systems, a web application framework, or CI/CD.
  • Experience running production services, including deployment, monitoring, alerting, and incident response.
  • Experience with a second language used for services or applications, such as Go, Rust, or C#.
  • Experience shipping internal tools that engineers rely on in their work.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain full-stack applications and platforms used across production, test, and flight, including data processing that turns telemetry, sensor data, or video into usable analysis.
  • Work directly with vehicle, propulsion, test, manufacturing, and inspection engineers on analysis problems.
  • Build internal tools and web interfaces engineers use to query, visualize, and act on engineering data and automated analysis results.
  • Profile and improve performance in data processing, database queries, and interactive views of large telemetry or video datasets.
  • Integrate statistical models, computer vision, or large language models into review workflows for anomaly detection and inspection.
  • Move prototypes into production using automated tests, CI/CD, and repeatable release processes.
  • Manage application infrastructure, including deployments, monitoring, operations, and capacity planning.
  • Operate applications in production, respond to failures, restore service, and carry fixes into the software and operating practices.
  • Work across processing, interfaces, models, and operations, learning unfamiliar areas quickly enough to ship.
