About The Position

Develop, deploy, and improve software powering an autonomous vehicle fleet. This hands-on role works across the onboard software stack, building capabilities, improving reliability, and addressing challenges that arise from operating autonomous vehicles in real-world conditions. The engineer works with software engineering and fleet operations teams to implement features, investigate system behavior, and build tools for developing, testing, and operating vehicles. The role is open to a range of experience levels and values strong technical fundamentals, independent problem-solving, and the ability to understand unfamiliar systems quickly. This is an on-site role based in San Francisco.

Requirements

• Strong software engineering fundamentals and proficiency in at least one programming language.
• Experience with Linux systems, command-line tools, and software debugging.
• Ability to systematically investigate complex technical problems and identify root causes.
• Comfort working across software and hardware interfaces.
• Strong ownership and communication skills, and ability to work independently.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with robotics, autonomous vehicles, embedded systems, or distributed systems.
• Experience with Python, Rust, or C++.
• Experience with sensors, networking, telemetry, or data logging.
• Experience with software deployment, system monitoring, or test automation.
• Experience developing software for systems deployed on physical hardware.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain onboard software, including runtime services, sensor interfaces, networking, and logging.
• Investigate and resolve software issues using logs, telemetry, and hands-on testing.
• Implement features, bug fixes, and system improvements based on real-world fleet experience.
• Deploy, configure, and validate software releases on vehicles.
• Build diagnostic tools, scripts, and automation to improve fleet reliability and engineering efficiency.
• Work with fleet operations and other engineering teams to support vehicle testing and continuously improve the software stack.
