About the position
As a Software Engineer at Airbyte, you will be responsible for building and maintaining database connectors, with the goal of making Airbyte's database sources the industry leaders. You will drive project design, lead technical initiatives, and pioneer the creation of new patterns and tools. Additionally, you will contribute to the team roadmap, improve engineering processes, write high-leverage code, and mentor other engineers. This opportunity is for an L5+ Engineer, where you will provide thought leadership and context to the organization, driving alignment across teams to achieve success with company objectives.
Responsibilities
- Drive project design and build Airbyte's database sources
- Lead cross-team technical initiatives
- Pioneer the creation of new patterns, tools, and frameworks for the connectors organization
- Help shape the Database Sources team roadmap and product
- Improve engineering processes and documentation
- Write high-leverage code
- Mentor engineers
- Have 8+ years of software engineering experience
- Work as a Staff, Senior Staff, or Principal level engineer
- Profile and optimize high-performance applications
- Have a deep understanding of how relational and NoSQL databases work internally, including but not limited to Postgresql, MySQL, and MongoDB
- Be proficient in Java
- Have advanced SQL skills
- Take a user-centric approach to building products and developer tools
- Enjoy building abstractions and tools which multiply output
- Be excited to work remote
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Have a passion for continuous learning and improvement (both at a personal and team level)

Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience
- Experience working as a Staff, Senior Staff, or Principal level engineer
- Experience in profiling and optimizing high-performance applications
- Deep understanding of how relational and NoSQL databases work internally, including but not limited to Postgresql, MySQL, and MongoDB
- Proficient in Java
- Advanced SQL skills
- User-centric approach to building products and developer tools
- Enjoy building abstractions & tools which multiply output
- Excited to work remote
