About The Position

Deploy is an intelligence infrastructure platform that provides developers and enterprises access to open-source and proprietary AI models. The company operates an optimized inference engine for leading open-source large language models and offers proprietary models for content safety, AI and deepfake detection, sponsorship intelligence, and intellectual property and publicity protection. Deploy has more than 250 employees across offices in San Francisco, Seattle, New York, and Delhi. The Backend Software Engineer will help grow Deploy’s engineering team and develop products and features for production. The role suits a developer who can work autonomously, is open to new technologies, and is comfortable addressing challenges of scale. The ideal candidate has experience building core services and web APIs from the ground up, cares about both the product and its underlying technology, and writes clean, maintainable code. The position focuses on backend systems including REST APIs, microservices, data ingestion and processing, and distributed task and job processing. The engineer will contribute to product and backend improvements, uphold engineering and security practices, debug production issues, and participate in on-call rotations as needed. The expected base salary range is $120,000–$180,000; stock options may be offered in addition.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.
A few years of experience building web applications.
Experience or a strong interest in writing applications in Node.js.
Experience implementing highly available distributed systems or microservices.
Experience building scalable backend APIs.
Experience working with relational databases.
Strong belief in high code quality, automated testing, and other engineering best practices.
Attention to detail and a passion for correctness.
Comfort learning new technologies and systems.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a bias toward action.

Nice To Haves

PostgreSQL experience is preferred.
Understanding of monitoring and alerting platforms is a plus.

Responsibilities

Design, implement, or improve features across backend systems, including REST APIs, microservices, data ingestion and processing systems, and distributed task/job processing systems.
Write and maintain scalable, performant, and secure code that can be shared across platforms.
Contribute to the product and core backend systems by proposing and executing improvements.
Improve engineering standards, tooling, processes, and security.
Practice test-driven development.
Debug production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack.
Participate in on-call rotations as needed to ensure prompt and effective resolution of critical technical issues.
Use OWASP Top 10 techniques to secure code from vulnerabilities.
Maintain awareness of industry best practices for data maintenance and handling as they relate to the role.
Adhere to policies, guidelines, and procedures for protecting information assets.
Report actual or suspected security or policy violations or breaches to an appropriate authority.
