About The Position

Handi Quilter is a worldwide leader in longarm quilting machines and accessories. We develop innovative products that help quilters create their best work, and we are committed to high-quality products, responsive service, and a collaborative work environment. Handi Quilter is looking for a software engineer to help us improve the reliability of software for our longarm quilting machines. This position is focused on writing automated tests for Windows applications built with C# and .NET. You will work directly with our software, mechanical, electrical, product, and support teams. Because our software controls and communicates with physical equipment, you will work on-site with your manager for the first few weeks while learning our products, systems, and development process. After the initial training period, our team generally works in the office three days per week. Work-from-home flexibility is based on demonstrated performance, independence, and the needs of the team and project. We are looking for someone who manages their work responsibly, communicates proactively, and does not require close supervision.

Requirements

  • Experience writing production or test code in C# and .NET for Microsoft Windows applications or services.
  • Experience creating automated tests with MSTest, NUnit, xUnit, or a similar framework.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of Git or another version-control system.
  • Ability to collaborate with software engineers and other technical teams.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and communicate progress without close supervision.
  • Ability to explain technical problems clearly in writing and conversation.

Nice To Haves

  • Formal education, coursework, certification, or professional training in software testing or quality engineering.
  • Experience integrating automated tests into Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or another CI/CD system.
  • Experience with Selenium or another user-interface automation tool is helpful but not required.
  • Experience testing software that communicates with machines, electronics, or other hardware.
  • Working knowledge of C++.
  • Familiarity with WPF desktop applications.
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment.
  • A degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain automated tests for our Windows software using C#, .NET, and MSTest.
  • Use Selenium for user-interface testing where appropriate.
  • Run tests in our build and release process, investigate failures, and clearly document defects and root causes.
  • Work with developers to improve testability, test coverage, and release quality.
  • Test software with Handi Quilter machines and related hardware.
  • Mentor manual testers and recommend practical improvements to our testing processes.
