About The Position

Join eBay’s Customer Support Technology Platform team to help build and evolve the foundational systems that power our global customer support experience. As a Software Engineer 2, you will contribute to backend platform services, internal tools, and infrastructure components that enable scalable, reliable, and efficient engineering across teams. This is a hands-on role where you will primarily focus on coding, debugging, and learning platform systems, working closely with senior engineers to deliver high-quality solutions.

Requirements

  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 2–4 years of software engineering experience
  • Proficiency in Java (or similar backend language)
  • Experience building or contributing to RESTful APIs or backend services
  • Basic understanding of: Distributed systems concepts
  • Basic understanding of: Databases (SQL; exposure to NoSQL is a plus)
  • Familiarity with: Version control (Git)
  • Familiarity with: CI/CD pipelines
  • Familiarity with: Unit testing and debugging
  • Working knowledge of modern frontend technologies (e.g., JavaScript/TypeScript, React or Angular) sufficient to contribute to UI components and integrations when needed

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to Spring Boot or similar frameworks
  • Familiarity with messaging systems (e.g., Kafka)
  • Experience with cloud platforms, containers (Docker/Kubernetes)
  • Basic knowledge of monitoring/logging tools
  • Awareness of platform engineering concepts (internal tooling, shared services)

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain backend services, platform components, and internal tools
  • Contribute to APIs, automation frameworks, and shared platform capabilities
  • Write clean, testable, and maintainable code following team standards
  • Participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and Agile ceremonies
  • Solve issues in development and production by receiving mentorship
  • Support system reliability and performance improvements
  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and SRE teams
  • Learn and apply best practices in scalability, observability, and system design
