About The Position

This role is for a Software Development Manager (SDM) on the Rendering Foundations team at Amazon. The team is responsible for providing building blocks for product displays that power experiences like Search, Personalization, Cart, and Checkout across all platforms, including Amazon.com and mobile. The SDM will lead engineers to solve challenging technical and business problems, own a federated tier-1 system, and run an operational center of excellence. The role involves designing, building, and evolving systems using the latest AI-native software development practices, and collaborating closely with business teams, product managers, engineers, and partner teams to transform ideas into customer-delighting products.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 7+ years of engineering experience
  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of software development engineers operating at the scale of the Amazon Store within an Agile environment.
  • Think big and partner with executive leadership and business stakeholders to define strategy and chart a compelling roadmap.
  • Own end-to-end management and execution against the roadmap, project plans, and delivery commitments.
  • Establish mechanisms to monitor operational excellence, consistently meeting or exceeding system SLAs (e.g., availability, latency, reliability).
  • Collaborate closely with engineers to architect and deliver the best technical design and approach for each challenge.
  • Define and cultivate an inclusive team culture that fosters individual growth and collective success.
