About The Position

As a Software Development Engineer on Workday’s Admin Central team, you will design, build, and maintain high-performance microservices and data pipelines for Workday’s next-generation Agentic Workflow and Analytics Platform. The platform supports more than 700 customer accounts and handles ad hoc and ambient agentic requests through high-throughput analytics and workflows. You will design multi-agent architectures for enterprise-grade agentic capabilities and extend agentic workflows using tools such as LangSmith and LangChain. The work includes improving visibility into agent execution, tool calls, and prompt/response chains across global, multi-tenant environments, and building a governed deployment fabric where agents handle much of the configuration, data migration, and validation, with key human-in-the-loop interactions. The team is building distributed systems, high-availability usage pipelines, agentic functionality, and event-driven data flows across global product regions to support enterprise billing integrity and improve administrators’ work.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience building and maintaining production applications.
  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience in at least two of these programming languages: Python, Java, Go, or Scala.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Practical experience with distributed systems, microservice architectures, or event-driven pipelines, such as Kafka, Spark, or relational/columnar databases including ClickHouse or PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with RESTful APIs, gRPC, or microservice communication protocols.
  • Familiarity with high-throughput data processing engines such as Apache Kafka or Spark and cloud storage architectures such as AWS S3/Iceberg.
  • Exposure to LLM application frameworks such as LangChain or LangSmith, or OpenTelemetry (OTLP) tracing models.
  • Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, AWS infrastructure, and CI/CD automation tools such as Git, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins.
  • Commitment to test-driven development, integration testing, and telemetry-based monitoring.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, clear communication, and an eager, adaptable approach to complex engineering challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Design, code, and deploy production-ready microservices and streaming pipelines for BPO’s core analytics and agentic engines.
  • Build scalable REST and gRPC APIs for integrations with MCP tools, LLM workflows, and observability frameworks.
  • Write unit, integration, and distributed load tests and ensure end-to-end reliability across CI/CD automation pipelines.
  • Monitor, triage, and resolve production issues to maintain high platform availability and low latency across global customer tenants.
  • Write API specifications, component designs, and operational runbooks.

Benefits

  • May be eligible for the Workday Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission/bonus.
  • May be eligible for annual refresh stock grants.
  • Flexible work arrangement, with at least half of each quarter spent in the office or in the field, depending on role.
