Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)

PathAIBoston, MA
$96,750 - $148,500Hybrid

About The Position

PathAI is seeking a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join their Engineering team. This role involves building and maintaining the automated testing infrastructure for PathAI's software platform, partnering with software engineers, product managers, and QA leads on test strategies, automation code, pull request reviews, and debugging. The position also includes contributing to the expansion and optimization of testing infrastructure, scaling automation capabilities by working on test environments, cloud infrastructure, and deployment pipelines. This involves hands-on work with AWS and Kubernetes to manage test environments and improve the testing toolset for the engineering team. This is an opportunity for an early-career SDET to learn, grow, and impact healthcare technology.

Requirements

  • BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or closely related field.
  • 1–2 years of hands-on experience writing and maintaining automated tests using frameworks such as Playwright, Cypress, or similar.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, TypeScript, or equivalent) with clean, readable coding habits.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform and benefit from code reviews — both giving actionable feedback and incorporating it constructively.
  • Demonstrated debugging skills: ability to isolate root causes across multiple layers of a system (frontend, backend, infrastructure, data).
  • Working knowledge of AWS (e.g., EC2, S3, ECS, Lambda) and experience working in or alongside containerized environments.
  • Solid level of familiarity with Kubernetes for deploying, managing, or observing services in test or staging environments.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a team environment with excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable asking clarifying questions and surfacing blockers.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in healthcare, life sciences, or other regulated industry software development.
  • Experience integrating test automation into CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab, CircleCI, or similar).
  • Exposure to performance, load, or security testing practices.
  • Genuine desire to learn — seeks out feedback, reads documentation thoroughly, and adapts to new tools and processes quickly.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with attention to detail; ability to manage multiple projects and drive results in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain automated test suites using modern automation frameworks across UI, API, and integration layers.
  • Participate actively in code reviews, providing and receiving constructive feedback.
  • Work with engineers and business stakeholders to understand new features and translate requirements into comprehensive test plans.
  • Perform manual testing as needed to support product verification and user acceptance testing.
  • Investigate and debug test failures, production incidents, and flaky tests; communicate findings clearly.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines to ensure automated tests run reliably on every build.
  • Help build and maintain the cloud infrastructure (AWS, Kubernetes) that supports test environments and scales the test toolset.
  • Document test strategies, coverage gaps, and known issues.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with a remote-friendly, distributed team, managing priorities and deliverables independently.

Benefits

  • Relocation benefits are not available for this position.
