About The Position

Platform Science is seeking an experienced Software Development Engineer in Test II (SDET II) to improve the quality, reliability, and delivery speed of its software products. The role designs and maintains automated test solutions, strengthens testing practices, and partners with engineering and product teams throughout the development lifecycle. The ideal candidate brings strong software engineering skills and a quality-focused mindset, and can independently solve moderately complex testing and automation challenges. The position includes automated and manual testing of software, as well as exploratory testing for Electronic Logging Device (ELD) compliance solutions. This includes hardware-in-the-loop setups using Android tablets and telematics devices/On-Board Computers (OBCs), along with in-cabin vehicle testing. The role must work on-site at least three days per week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3–4 years of experience in software development, test automation, or quality engineering.
  • Proficiency in Python or a comparable object-oriented language such as Java, C#, Ruby, or JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Experience with Gherkin/BDD frameworks.
  • Experience with mobile UI automation such as Appium, Espresso, or XCUITest.
  • Comfort with REST API testing, including OAuth-based authentication flows, building and debugging HTTP request wrappers, and interpreting API error responses.
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD systems, and Agile software development practices.
  • Ability to troubleshoot distributed systems using logs, metrics, traces, and debugging tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate across technical and nontechnical teams.
  • Ability to work on-site a minimum of three days per week.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience testing cloud-based applications or services in AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Working knowledge of Docker and dev containers for consistent local test environments.
  • Experience testing Android applications using UiAutomator2, adb, or similar tools.
  • Familiarity with test reporting tools such as Allure or ReportPortal.
  • Experience with performance and load-testing tools such as k6, JMeter, or Gatling.
  • Knowledge of accessibility, security, contract, or resilience testing.
  • Experience improving test architecture, reducing flaky automation, or modernizing legacy test frameworks.
  • Familiarity with observability platforms and production-quality monitoring.
  • Practical experience using AI coding tools, with the judgment to verify and adapt AI-generated code.
  • Experience mentoring engineers or leading quality initiatives across multiple teams.
  • Experience in a regulated or compliance-driven domain.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test cases and suites using established frameworks and patterns.
  • Create test strategies and plans for functional, integration, regression, end-to-end, performance, and reliability testing.
  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and improve the speed, stability, and usefulness of test feedback.
  • Review product requirements and technical designs to identify risks, edge cases, and testability concerns early.
  • Diagnose failures across application, test, infrastructure, and data layers, partnering with developers to resolve root causes.
  • Monitor and report quality metrics, including defect trends, test coverage, escaped defects, and automation reliability.
  • Reduce flaky tests and improve automation suite maintainability and execution efficiency.
  • Participate in code reviews and promote engineering practices that improve testability and software quality.
  • Conduct manual and exploratory testing for ELD compliance solutions, including hardware-in-the-loop setups and in-cabin vehicle testing.
