About The Position

ARC is seeking an experienced, hands-on Senior SDET to own quality assurance engineering for its kiosk system across physical hardware, software integrations, client configurations, and releases. This hybrid individual-contributor role combines technical leadership with active manual, exploratory, and automated testing. The Senior SDET will drive test strategy, lead UAT and release validation, investigate complex hardware/software defects, and mentor junior QA engineers while remaining actively involved in hands-on kiosk testing. The role works across critical kiosk workflows and hardware/software interactions, including device pickup and return, activation and deactivation, locker management, scanner operations, door sensors, connectivity interruptions, timeouts, and failure recovery. The Senior SDET will assess release risks and provide QA go/no-go recommendations, while partnering with Development, Product, and QA teams to improve testability and quality practices. ARC operates on East Coast business hours. The position is hybrid: candidates are expected onsite for the first 90 days, then in the office 2–3 days per week. The company is headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Requirements

  • 8–10+ years in software QA, including independent ownership of release validation or UAT for complex systems.
  • Prior experience in a product-based company.
  • Depth in exploratory, integration, regression, and risk-based testing.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot hardware/software integration issues end to end using Linux log analysis, SQL, and browser developer tools.
  • Experience testing IoT, kiosk, POS, or similarly hardware-integrated systems.
  • REST API testing experience using Postman or similar, with solid JSON and HTTP fundamentals.
  • Working PostgreSQL knowledge sufficient to query and validate device, locker, and checkout data directly.
  • Hands-on experience with Cypress/TypeScript or comparable automation tooling, plus Git and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with Jira and a test-management tool such as Xray, Zephyr, or TestRail.
  • Ability to define test strategy, evaluate release readiness, mentor engineers, and communicate risk clearly to engineering and product.
  • Ability to work onsite for the first 90 days, then 2–3 days per week in the office.
  • Ability to work East Coast business hours.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with GitLab CI, Allure, Docker, Testcontainers, or containerized test environments.
  • Knowledge of OpenAPI specifications and API contract testing.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Helm, ArgoCD, or edge deployments.
  • Prior QA lead or release coordination experience.

Responsibilities

  • Own and execute risk-based manual, exploratory, functional, regression, and integration testing across critical kiosk workflows.
  • Define and maintain test coverage across hardware variants, client configurations, and application releases.
  • Perform hands-on testing of device pickup, return, activation/deactivation, locker management, scanner operations, and out-of-service/recovery flows.
  • Validate hardware-software interactions, including device detection, door sensors, connectivity interruptions, timeouts, and failure recovery.
  • Independently investigate and isolate complex defects across UI, backend services, hardware, network, and test environments.
  • Design, review, and maintain manual test suites, test data, and release-validation checklists.
  • Lead UAT and release validation, including risk-based test planning, execution coordination, and coverage assessment.
  • Evaluate outstanding defects, communicate release risks, and provide QA go/no-go recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Verify defect fixes, assess regression impact, and collaborate with Development and Product to prevent recurring issues.
  • Ensure physical kiosk hardware and test environments are ready for scheduled testing and releases.
  • Execute, analyze, and maintain existing Cypress/TypeScript UI and API automated tests.
  • Investigate automation failures and distinguish product defects from test instability or environment issues.
  • Identify high-value automation opportunities and collaborate with the automation team to address regression coverage gaps.
  • Monitor CI pipelines and ensure automated regression results are considered during release-readiness assessments.
  • Mentor associate and mid-level QA engineers in test design, exploratory testing, and defect investigation.
  • Review test cases and defect reports to establish consistent quality standards.
  • Partner with Development, Product, and QA teams to improve testability, identify risks early, and promote continuous improvement.
  • Advocate for an AI-native approach to Quality Engineering and drive best practices across the team.
