About The Position

The SDE III React Developer is a senior, hands-on engineering role responsible for designing and building high-quality, scalable, secure, and maintainable web applications using React, TypeScript, and the modern JavaScript ecosystem. The role combines deep hands-on development with technical leadership. The engineer independently owns complex features, drives technical design and implementation decisions, establishes engineering patterns and best practices, and helps the team deliver high-quality solutions efficiently and predictably. The position calls for deep expertise in React web development and experience with monorepo architectures containing multiple applications, shared libraries and components, common dependencies, build tooling, testing frameworks, and development standards. The engineer acts as a technical partner to the Engineering Manager by evaluating technical options, resolving complex challenges, identifying risks and dependencies, and providing clear technical direction. The role collaborates with Product, UX, Architecture, API/backend engineering, SRE, QA, and other engineering teams. It includes ownership across the software development lifecycle, from design and implementation through testing, deployment, observability, and production support. The work environment is hybrid, with three in-office days (Tuesday through Thursday) stated for Jan 1st.

Requirements

  • Deep hands-on expertise in React, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, with extensive experience building production-grade web applications.
  • Expert understanding of React architecture, including component composition, hooks, rendering behavior, application lifecycle, reusable patterns, and maintainable application design.
  • Strong understanding of the modern frontend ecosystem and Node.js-based tooling for React development.
  • Experience designing and maintaining large-scale React applications, beyond individual pages or UI components.
  • Strong experience with monorepo architecture and shared packages or libraries using Nx, Turborepo, pnpm/Yarn/npm workspaces, or equivalent tooling.
  • Strong understanding of package boundaries, dependency management, shared-library architecture, dependency graphs, build tooling, and reusable application capabilities.
  • Experience building and maintaining shared component libraries and design systems.
  • Strong experience with modern state-management and server-state approaches such as Redux Toolkit, Zustand, TanStack Query, Context API, or equivalent solutions.
  • Strong understanding of REST APIs, asynchronous data flows, authentication and authorization, error handling, and resilient frontend/backend integration.
  • Strong understanding of frontend performance optimization, including rendering optimization, bundle size, code splitting, lazy loading, caching, and identifying client-side performance bottlenecks.
  • Strong understanding of web accessibility and WCAG-aligned engineering practices.
  • Strong knowledge of secure frontend development, dependency security, authentication flows, and protection of sensitive client-side data.
  • Strong experience with automated testing using Jest, React Testing Library, Playwright, Cypress, or equivalent tools.
  • Experience with Git, pull-request workflows, CI/CD, automated quality gates, deployment pipelines, and modern software-delivery practices.
  • Exceptional debugging and problem-solving ability, including diagnosing issues across application code, APIs, shared libraries, third-party dependencies, build systems, and runtime environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently drive complex or ambiguous requirements from technical design through production implementation.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical direction while remaining a strong hands-on contributor.
  • Ability to evaluate competing technical approaches, communicate trade-offs clearly, and make pragmatic engineering decisions.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with engineers, architects, Product, UX, SRE, and engineering leadership.
  • Ability to influence technical direction without formal authority and raise the technical capability of the broader team.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on software engineering experience with significant production React and TypeScript development experience.
  • Demonstrated experience as a senior engineer or technical lead delivering complex web applications.
  • Experience owning solutions across the full software development lifecycle, including technical design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and production support.
  • Experience with large-scale frontend codebases, preferably using a monorepo and shared-library architecture.
  • Experience establishing and applying frontend architecture, reusable patterns, coding standards, testing strategies, and engineering best practices.
  • Experience with modern testing, CI/CD, build, dependency-management, and deployment practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with cloud and observability platforms such as Azure, Application Insights, Splunk, or comparable technologies.
  • Understanding of Microsoft Azure and modern observability practices.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and deliver complex production web applications using React and TypeScript.
  • Remain hands-on while serving as a technical leader for the engineering team.
  • Own complex features and technical initiatives from design and implementation through testing, deployment, observability, and production support.
  • Lead technical design discussions and make decisions about application architecture, component design, state management, data flows, API integration, performance, security, accessibility, and testing.
  • Work within a monorepo architecture containing multiple applications, shared components and libraries, utilities, configurations, dependencies, and common development tooling.
  • Design and evolve reusable React components, shared libraries, common services, hooks, utilities, and engineering patterns while maintaining clear boundaries between applications and packages.
  • Drive decisions about React architecture, component composition, state management, server-state management, routing, caching, error handling, and application lifecycle.
  • Integrate frontend applications with RESTful APIs and backend services for reliable, secure, and performant behavior.
  • Balance delivery speed, maintainability, scalability, technical debt, developer experience, and long-term architecture.
  • Identify technical blockers, architectural concerns, dependencies, and delivery risks early and drive them to resolution.
  • Serve as a technical partner to the Engineering Manager by providing recommendations and supporting engineering and delivery decisions.
  • Provide technical direction and mentorship through design reviews, code reviews, pairing, reusable patterns, troubleshooting, and knowledge sharing.
  • Translate ambiguous and complex requirements into clear technical designs and executable engineering work.
  • Establish and reinforce practices for unit, integration, and automated testing, code quality, security, and regression prevention.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues involving application code, shared libraries, APIs, dependencies, builds, CI/CD pipelines, and production environments.
  • Contribute to and improve CI/CD pipelines, automated quality gates, build and deployment processes, dependency management, and release practices.
  • Improve developer experience, build and application performance, maintainability, and engineering efficiency across the monorepo.
  • Collaborate with Product, UX, Architecture, API/backend engineering, SRE, QA, and other engineering teams to deliver business outcomes.
  • Keep current with the React, TypeScript, JavaScript, Node.js tooling, testing, build, and frontend engineering ecosystem, and introduce valuable improvements.
