About The Position

Lumbermen’s is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Software Developer Intern to join its IT team for Summer 2027. The internship offers hands-on experience working on real-world software projects. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, motivated, and enjoys trying new things.

The intern will work on developing and maintaining software applications, updating internal applications, and learning and applying modern software development tools, frameworks, and practices. Lumbermen’s is an employee-owned distributor and manufacturer headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and operates in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and Minnesota.

Requirements

• Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages, such as Python and SQL.
• Ability to manage databases.
• Understanding of object-oriented programming principles.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Willingness to learn new technologies and development practices.
• Ability to work independently or collaboratively as needed.
• Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks.
• Ability to meet deadlines.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Desire to learn and grow.

Nice To Haves

• Rising sophomore or junior preferred.
• Web development experience preferred.
• API knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications.
• Write clean, efficient, well-documented code that follows established coding standards.
• Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve software defects.
• Create and maintain technical documentation.
• Learn and apply modern software development tools, frameworks, and best practices.
• Update and modify internal applications.
