About The Position

Hitachi Rail Canada Inc. is seeking a Software Analyst Intern for Fall 2026. This internship/co-op position is full-time and hybrid, with a duration of 4, 8, or 12 months, starting in September 2026 and ending in August 2027. The intern will work on real-world projects supporting a multi-site team of 60 developers, with the potential to contribute to the core C++ engine code that schedules and commands trains. The company focuses on developing driverless subway train control software used in major cities worldwide, emphasizing reliability and rock-solid performance in demanding urban environments.

Requirements

  • Working towards a Computer Science degree or equivalent.
  • Knowledge in C++, C# or Java coding skills.
  • Knowledge in scripting languages such as Ruby, Perl, Python, Groovy.
  • Knowledge in software building tools like gmake, MSBuild, Maven.
  • Knowledge in unit testing & continuous integration frameworks.
  • Knowledge in web development including Typescript, WebSockets, Stencil, PixiJS, npm.
  • Knowledge in source control tools (Git, etc.).
  • Knowledge in Windows setup & configuration.
  • Exposure to object oriented techniques, multithreading, socket programming, Windows.
  • Experience in Agile work environments.
  • Working knowledge of modern software engineering practices, methods & tools.
  • Strong technical writing & communication skills.
  • Fluent in English - both written and oral communication skills.
  • Able to work full time (40 hours) for the agreed work term with a minimum of 2 days (16 hours) in the Burnaby office.
