About The Position

Hitachi Rail is seeking a Business Analyst (Engineering) Intern for Fall 2026, a full-time, hybrid position lasting 8-12 months. The intern will promote data-driven decision-making for Engineering processes and practices by utilizing Business Intelligence (BI) Reports and analyzing company datasets. This role involves exploring the use of AI and advanced analytics to improve engineering efficiency and insights. The intern will report to the Director of Engineering Excellence and collaborate with the Engineering Operations and Engineering Excellence departments.

Requirements

• Working toward a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited university or college in an Engineering-related or Data-related field.
• Experienced in preparing and giving presentations
• Experienced in exploring and evaluating data
• Knowledgeable about principles of Business Intelligence and Data Analytics
• Demonstrates curiosity, willingness to learn, and poised to find an effective solution
• Strong in organizational skills and their ability to balance multiple priorities
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work 40 hours a week in a hybrid environment for the duration of the internship, with at least 2 days per week in the office.

Nice To Haves

• Experienced in data processing scripting and automation using Python, PowerShell and/or SQL
• Knowledgeable about systems engineering principles

Responsibilities

• Collaborating with colleagues across all engineering disciplines to define requirements and use cases for BI, including performing preliminary analyses of company datasets
• Contribute creative ideas and prototypes that leverage data, analytics, and/or AI to address complex or ambiguous problems
• Supporting the Engineering Continuous Improvement Lead in defining “Problem Statements”, performing Root Cause Analysis and the return-on-investment (ROI) for potential solutions
• Use the data and analytics at their disposal to produce actionable insights
• Analyzing company datasets for usability and propose means to improve data integrity
• Present their findings and recommendations to peers and senior stakeholders
• When required, develop prototypes of Power BI Reports based on defined requirements
