About The Position

This is an adjunct faculty pool for teaching part-time in the Social Science and Human Services department. If you qualify, please apply and briefly describe your special area of instruction in your cover letter. This pool will remain open until June 2027 unless positions are no longer needed. Applications will be reviewed, and candidates will be contacted and interviewed as positions become available. Compensation is based on the 26-27 Adjunct Faculty Salary Schedule. Rogue Community College is seeking a part-time Sociology Instructor to cultivate a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and academic backgrounds. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about collaborating to enhance student success, creating interactive learning experiences, and fostering a supportive learning environment that inspires students' critical thinking. Specifically, we are looking for an instructor to teach: Race and Ethnicity in the U.S. in person and/or Introduction to Criminology online and/or Juvenile Delinquency online. The instructor is responsible for the planning and implementation of various sociology courses. Instructor is required to create a course syllabus, instruct students in the subject matter in accordance with that syllabus, maintain attendance records, assess student progress and evaluate course work for a letter grade. Instructor will maintain college standards in all aspects of professionalism, record keeping and instruction within the team atmosphere of the social science department of Rogue Community College.

Requirements

A Master’s Degree in Sociology or a related field is required.
Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted: accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 34 8.609.
Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree.
Ability to communicate effectively, inclusively, interactively, engagingly, and respectfully with diverse students, staff, and community members.
Demonstrate experience or potential for innovation and creativity in both the classroom and in online.
Demonstrate a commitment to professional standards and growth.
Pass a criminal background check.
Knowledge of current trends in sociological subjects being taught.
Knowledge of computer applications for communication and learning, including, but not limited to, word processing, the Internet, multi-media presentations, spreadsheets and database management.
Knowledge of curriculum development; the community colleges' mission, role in higher education, and student population; and best practices for culturally responsive teaching.
Final candidate will be required to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

Successful teaching experience in a higher education setting.
For assignments requiring operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a valid Oregon Driver’s License and proof of an acceptable driving record are required. New employees establishing resident status in the State of Oregon must obtain an Oregon driver’s license within 30 days ( ORS 807.020 (1) ).

Responsibilities

Instructs students in a classroom, lab, learning center, or other setting as appropriate using active learning approaches that both engage and facilitate student learning.
Prepares, distributes, and utilizes instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media, and other devices as appropriate.
Develops, communicates, and utilizes a student assessment process and instruments which are related to the stated objectives of the course.
Adapt learning procedures to the online/distance learning environment, including web-based delivery, ensuring comparable quality of instruction, student-teacher interaction, and assessment with classroom-based courses.
May participate as a team member in departmental meetings and planning activities.
Communicate effectively with a wide variety of students and college staff.
Responsible for departmental equipment and provides for the security of facilities and instructional materials as appropriate to the department.
Participates in curriculum planning and development and outcomes and assessment activities as needed.
Organize the learning experience for the maximum benefit of traditional and non-traditional learners.
Maintain regular and responsive communication with students, the department, and the college.
Strive to enhance teaching and learning techniques.
Pursue professional development to stay current in the field of sociology and utilizing best practices for teaching and learning.
Understand and commit to the community college vision and mission.
Performs other duties as assigned.
