About The Position

The Office of Domestic Violence is recruiting eight Social Workers for the NoVA/MRT-Consultation Unit. The NoVA program supports people seeking emergency housing through the Department of Homeless Services who have domestic violence concerns that may contribute to their need for homeless services. It provides crisis counseling, assessments, referrals to domestic violence shelters, information about entitlements, advocacy, group counseling, and other services, including legal intervention. The program's assessment units are located at the DHS PATH Family Intake Center and DHS Adult Family Intake Center, and it also has a NoVA/MRT-Consultation Unit. Social Workers provide services at centrally based or out-stationed Human Resources Administration and Department of Homeless Services facilities. They must be available to work in all boroughs and DHS locations. The schedule is 9–5 flex. Applicants must be permanent in the Social Worker civil service title. Provisional hires must take and pass the civil service exam when it becomes available to remain eligible for continued employment. A Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited school is required. A valid New York State LMSW or LCSW license must be obtained within one year of appointment and maintained throughout employment. Failure to obtain the license within one year extends the probationary period by six months; failure to obtain it within 18 months of service results in termination.
