The Department of Social Services (DSS), through the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and Department of Homeless Services (DHS), provides essential benefits and services to New Yorkers and works to prevent and address homelessness. Domestic Violence Services (DVS) oversees domestic violence shelter and support services, the 24-hour hotline, the No Violence Again (NoVA) program, the Domestic Violence Liaison Unit, and prevention initiatives. The NoVA program supports domestic violence victims seeking emergency housing from DHS by providing assessments, crisis counseling, shelter referrals, information about entitlements, advocacy, group counseling, and other services, including legal intervention. The NoVA/MRT-Consultation Unit works with clients referred because domestic violence may be contributing to their need for homeless services. The Office of Domestic Violence is recruiting eight Social Workers for this unit. Workers provide services at HRA and DHS facilities, including centrally based and out-station locations, and must be available to work in all boroughs and DHS locations. The schedule is 9–5 flex. Applicants must be permanent in the Social Worker civil service title. A person hired provisionally must take and pass the civil service exam when available to remain eligible for continued employment. A Master’s Degree in Social Work from an accredited school is required. A New York State LMSW or LCSW license must be obtained within one year of appointment and maintained throughout employment. Failure to obtain the license within one year extends the probationary period by six months; failure to obtain it by the end of 18 months of service results in termination.
