About The Position

Serves as a McKinney-Vento liaison to all enrollment staff, district departments, community and schools. Ensures that all students in transition are identified and provided the resources and support to be successful in school. Provides assistance through data retrieval and analysis in order to review service quality, gaps and impact on the academic, physical, social-emotional, and developmental needs of students experiencing homelessness. Ensures the delivery of mandated services to facilitate the students’ school attendance and access to appropriate education. Maintains, generates, and distributes student demographic and McKinney-Vento identification to comply with federal requirements for immediate enrollment for PK-12th, transportation, and free meals. Facilitates transfer of student information between schools and processes student enrollment as backup for Student Information Data Managers to comply with federal requirements for immediate enrollment. Provides support to the McKinney Vento District Liaison. Position also provides technical assistance to school liaisons and conducts training, as needed.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of human behavior, social systems and social work skills/methods

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, community groups, vendors, external agencies, and the public
  • Bachelor’s degree in school social work from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Hold or be qualified to hold a North Carolina Professional Educator’s License for school social work
  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of North Carolina requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university in social work
  • Knowledge of the laws and policies governing the McKinney-Vento Act
  • Experience implementing McKinney-Vento law and policy in practice
  • Knowledge of district applications used to maintain and update student data

Responsibilities

  • Ensures children, youth, and family inquiries regarding the McKinney-Vento Act are addressed by referring to the appropriate contact person via email, phone call, or in-person.
  • Initiates McKinney-Vento services for current and next school year by processing information received by school liaisons.
  • Facilitates transfer of student information between schools to comply with federal requirements for immediate enrollment.
  • Processes student enrollment as backup for enrollment staff to comply with federal requirements for immediate enrollment.
  • Ensures school-age siblings are identified, when applicable, by reviewing student information system information, consulting with school liaisons, and responding to child nutrition inquiries.
  • Ensures preschool-age children in transition receive early intervention services through immediate enrollment and initiation of transportation services.
  • Ensures non-school age siblings are enrolled and identified.
  • Ensures non-school age siblings have updated information and correct school assignments when entering Preschool or Kindergarten.
  • Reviews daily reports and correct student information that may prevent the initiation of services.
  • Enters, maintains, reviews and submits annual state database information for each student identified.
  • Maintains and provides data on the academic, physical, social-emotional, and developmental needs of students experiencing homelessness to assist the District Liaison with reviewing and identifying service quality, gaps, and student progress.
  • Provides technical assistance to school liaisons, district departments, and community, as needed.
  • Assists with developing, implementing, and providing liaison and district McKinney-Vento training, as needed.
  • Maintains and updates information on online sites (ex. OneNote).
  • Attends professional learning opportunities as it relates to serving and supporting students in transition, as desired.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.
