About The Position

Goddard Riverside is hiring a Social Worker for The Monument, an emergency capacity site in New York, NY. The organization serves more than 20,000 people across New York City and works within a social justice framework to help people make choices that improve their lives and those of their families. The Social Worker will conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations for NYC Supportive Housing Applications (2010e) and provide clinical support to residents with complex needs. The role helps residents access permanent supportive housing and connect with behavioral health services that support housing stability. The position has a Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. schedule and a salary range of $65,000–$70,000 per year. The offer depends on relevant experience and preferred qualifications. The role combines clinical assessment and crisis support with a small caseload, coordination of referrals and placements, staff consultation, and accurate documentation. Work includes both office and field settings and may involve a residential environment serving clients with complex needs.

Requirements

Current New York State licensure as an LMSW.
Experience conducting psychiatric or biopsychosocial assessments; experience with individuals experiencing serious mental illness, homelessness, or co-occurring substance use is preferred.
Understanding of Housing First and harm reduction models.
Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills, including knowledge of the DSM-5.
Crisis intervention and de-escalation skills.
Commitment to trauma-informed, culturally responsive, person-centered care.
Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with individuals facing complex challenges.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including clear, thorough clinical writing.
Ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines.
Sound judgment and ability to maintain professional boundaries.
Ability to work independently and manage deadlines.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Outlook, and ability to use or learn electronic databases, programs, and funder-related software such as CARES.
Frequent walking and standing; ability to lift up to 30 pounds, such as client belongings during moves.
Ability to work in office and field settings in all weather conditions.

Familiarity with NYC supportive housing, SPOA, and the NYC behavioral health service system.

Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations for NYC Supportive Housing Applications (2010e), reviewing psychiatric history, diagnosis, functional impairments, and housing needs.
Manage a small caseload of clinically complex clients and maintain timely, accurate, confidential case records and documentation.
Provide clinical assessment support to program staff during 911 calls and mental health crises, including de-escalation and coordination with emergency responders.
Complete respite referrals and coordinate placements.
Support SPOA applications to connect eligible clients with mental health wraparound services, such as Care Coordination, ACT, and Intensive Case Management.
Perform intake, biopsychosocial assessment, service planning, advocacy, referral, and escort services for caseload clients.
Conduct risk assessments for suicide, violence, and self-neglect, and develop safety plans as needed.
Provide short-term, trauma-informed crisis intervention.
Connect clients with mental health, substance use, medical, and other community resources, including follow-up after hospitalizations or discharges.
Consult with and provide clinical guidance to case managers and other program staff.
Maintain accurate, timely data entry and documentation in compliance with funder and regulatory requirements.
Interface with community agencies, funders, and stakeholders, and help grow behavioral health resources available to clients.
Attend staff meetings, case conferences, training programs, and supervision; participate in program evaluation and quality improvement.
Perform other duties as required.
