Requirements

  • MSW degree from an accredited Masters of Social Work Program.
  • Knowledgeable about living organ donation and transplantation.
  • Advanced knowledge of categories in mental illness, personality development, types of psychiatric treatment, and skills in conducting individual, group, and family therapy.
  • Knowledge in adjustment to medical diagnosis and chronic disease.
  • Strong human relation skills to interact with patients, patient's family members, consultants, residents, hospital personnel, community agencies, and other resources.
  • Psychosocial diagnostic skills.
  • Licensure by applicable state requirements.
  • Minnesota: Licensure at the Licensed Graduate Social Work (LGSW), Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW), provisional LGSW, or provisional LICSW level from the Minnesota Board of Social Work (MN BOSW) is required.
  • LGSW/LISW personnel must be eligible to apply for licensure at the LICSW level after 4000 hours of clinically supervised practice and must attain it by 8000 hours.
  • A condition of employment at the LGSW/LISW level shall be the ability to practice clinically through a MN BOSW approved Clinical Supervision Plan leading to LICSW attainment within 8000 hours of employment post LGSW or LISW.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments, individual psychotherapy, treatment plans, and support for potential kidney and liver donors.
  • Coordinate discharge planning for donors through pre-donation, donation, and post-donation phases.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary transplant team.
  • Comply with required standards for medical/legal responsibilities.
  • Serve as a resource to other allied and administrative staff within the Section of Social Work and the Department of Nursing.
  • Conduct diagnostic assessments, determine clinical interventions, facilitate crisis intervention and psychotherapy, and provide education for patients and their families.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and external support systems.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of the treatment/transition plan.
  • Function as a multidisciplinary team member.
  • Function within the research, practice, and education shields at Mayo Clinic.
  • Comply with ethical and NASW standards for social workers in a healthcare setting, including medical/legal responsibilities.
