The Donor Social Worker conducts comprehensive psychosocial assessments, individual psychotherapy, treatment plans, and support, including coordination of discharge planning for potential kidney and liver donors through all phases of care including pre-donation, donation, and post-donation. The Donor Social Worker collaborates with the multidisciplinary transplant team, complies with required standards for medical/legal responsibilities, and serves as a resource to other allied and administrative staff within the Section of Social Work and the Department of Nursing. Under the supervision of a social worker who meets state required standards, conducts diagnostic assessment, determines clinical interventions, facilitates crisis intervention and psychotherapy and provides education for patients and their families. Communicates effectively verbally and in writing while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and external support systems. Participates in the development and implementation of the treatment/transition plan. Functions as a multidisciplinary team member. Functions within the research, practice, and education shields at Mayo Clinic. Complies with ethical and NASW standards for social workers in a healthcare setting including medical/legal responsibilities and serves as a resource to other allied and administrative staff within the section of Social Work and the Department of Nursing.
