About The Position

This position is assigned to the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Program, which provides trained volunteer citizen advocates to serve as guardians ad litem for children involved in abuse and neglect cases before the Family Court. The position trains, supervises, and supports volunteer advocates by conducting training, matching volunteers to cases, providing case consultation and guidance, reviewing case activities and reports, accompanying volunteers to court and meetings, and carrying cases when necessary. The position also interviews and screens prospective volunteers and represents the program at community outreach and recruitment activities. The position contributes to program development by evaluating and recommending improvements to policies, procedures, and program goals. It serves as a liaison between the Family Court, volunteers, community agencies, and other service providers, while promoting effective working relationships and continued volunteer involvement in the CASA Program, and may perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a bachelor’s degree which included a minimum of twelve (12) semester credit hours in courses such as social work, social sciences, criminal justice, human services, counseling, psychology, sociology, or other related social sciences.
  • Two and one-half (2-1/2) years of progressively responsible professional social work experience which involved utilizing a variety of social work skills and exercising professional judgement in the process of assisting individuals and their families with identifying their problems, evaluating the situation realistically, and considering resources and alternative courses of action pertinent to their needs and circumstances.
  • The work experience must have involved conducting assessments; developing and implementing a plan of treatment programs and services; working cooperatively with other professionals, community agencies or institutions, in an interdisciplinary team; and evaluating the client’s progress and adjusting plans as appropriate.
  • The education or experience background must also demonstrate the ability to write clear and comprehensive reports and other documents.
  • The education or experience background must also demonstrate the ability to read and interpret complex written material.
  • The education or experience background must also demonstrate the ability to solve complex problems logically and systematically.
  • Possess a current and valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle.
