About The Position

This position provides clinical case management, direct individual, group and family therapy, and clinical advice and support to a caseload of approximately ten adolescents in a residential treatment center/special education school setting for emotionally disabled adolescents. This position requires someone who demonstrates specific expertise in understanding the symptoms and treatments for clients with diagnoses which are typically seen in emotionally disabled adolescents. This position requires someone who can work effectively with a treatment team made up of nursing/residential, educational and rehabilitation staff as well as social workers, psychologist and psychiatrists to provide treatment that is family driven & youth guided. The incumbent of this position must also be able to generate extensive documentation such as treatment plans, progress notes and reports required in a contemporary mental health context.

Requirements

  • Must be licensed as a Graduate Social Worker (on or by June 30, 2018), Master Social Worker(on or after July 1, 2018) or Certified Social Worker by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners prior to appointment to a position in State service.
  • Applicants who do not have a license may also apply pending receipt of the required license.
  • Employees assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile will be required to possess an appropriate operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

Nice To Haves

  • Three semester hours of special education coursework.
  • Certification from the Maryland Board of Education in School Social Work as per COMAR 13A.12.04.11.
  • Experience providing therapeutic and crisis intervention services to children and adolescents with serious emotional and behavioral disorders, including the use of evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), suicide risk assessment, de-escalation techniques, trauma-informed care, and positive behavior supports.
  • Experience working in special education and interdisciplinary treatment planning, including IEP development, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and the ability to develop comprehensive treatment plans and maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation.
