About The Position

Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences is seeking a Social Worker to provide specialized care to patients with complex mental illnesses using a recovery-focused model. The role involves being an active member of an inter-professional team on a 23-bed inpatient unit within the Geriatric and Neuropsychiatry Program. This unit serves older adults with dementia and responsive behaviors, typically from long-term care facilities. The unit's focus is on assessment, stabilization, treatment, and management of dementia-related behaviors, with the goal of enabling patients to transition successfully to long-term care or their referring organization.

Requirements

  • An MSW is required.
  • Must be registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers in good standing.
  • Current CPR Level HCP is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the OCSWSSW Standards of Practice and commitment to maintaining reflective practice standards.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Mental Health, and relevant policies and legislation, such as the Mental Health Act and PHIPA is required.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • The candidate will have demonstrated excellent interpersonal and effective oral/written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of the position.

Nice To Haves

  • 3-5 years psychiatric experience in a mental health facility or service is desirable.
  • Knowledge of concurrent disorders an asset.
  • The ability to work with clients of diverse ethno racial and cultural backgrounds and proficiency in a second language would be considered an asset.

  • Work variable hours as required due to patient demand.
