About The Position

The Clinical Social Worker serves as a core member of interdisciplinary treatment team. As a clinical practitioner the social worker independently exercises clinical judgment and uses theory to formulate a psychosocial assessment, treatment modality and discharge plan. Treatment interventions include individual, and family therapies to identify deficits and remedies in complex cases such as suicide attempts, depression, abuse, mania, aggression, noncompliance, personality disorders, dual diagnosis, violence and substance abuse. The social worker’s use of a holistic approach ensures patient and family’s input into planning and treatment. The social worker coordinates and develops a discharge plan through an integrated approach with team, patient, system and community agencies. The clinical social worker also serves as the community liaison for the unit, and may become involved in specific legal aspects of the patient’s care such as involuntary commitment hearings, hearings etc. The unpredictable nature of psychiatric patients requires the clinical worker to exercise flexibility and quick decision-making skills in order to assess various situations and plan or intervene as needed. In this role, work is performed with considerable independence, but also requires team work and collaboration.

Requirements

Master’s degree from an appropriately accredited school of social work.
Licensure required from NC SW Certification and Licensure Board.
Must fulfill all requirements for Licensure in North Carolina as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker as required by the North Carolina Social Work Certification and Licensure Board.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of social work principles, techniques and practices as it relates to the psychosocial model of treatment.
Considerable knowledge of maladaptive behaviors, psychosocial problems, diagnosis, treatment and intervention techniques, including experience providing individual therapy.
Good oral and written skills.
Ability to work effectively with clients/families/guardians and with community providers and Managed Care Organizations in the eastern region of North Carolina and other service providers.
Ability to work effectively with the interdisciplinary treatment team and other various departments and disciplines.
