About The Position

The Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation Services is searching for Social Workers to take part in meaningful work that helps students with disabilities move toward their employment goals. This position gives you the chance to guide young people as they explore options, learn new skills, and understand available services. This position focuses on assisting students with disabilities as they transition from school to adult life and prepare for employment. Work involves ensuring students receive the guidance, information, and support they need to connect with services through the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience as a Social Worker 1 or Forensic Social Worker 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) (must have been employed in a commonwealth social worker job title on September 8, 2008, with continuous commonwealth employment)
  • Two years of experience as a Social Worker 1 or a Forensic Social Worker 1 and a bachelor’s degree in social work or social welfare
  • Two years of professional experience providing direct public or private social work services, and a bachelor’s degree in social work or social welfare
  • A master's degree in social work or social welfare
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
  • Meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide counseling, information, and advocacy to students with disabilities to support their transition toward employment
  • Gather and evaluate student information to identify service needs and factors that influence successful career planning
  • Identify community and educational resources and make referrals to agencies that support student goals
  • Maintain communication with school staff and agencies to share information, provide training, and strengthen partnerships that benefit students
  • Participate in meetings with students and families to help develop plans that support the move from school to employment
  • Assist students in preparing and completing application materials required for Office of Vocational Rehabilitation services and eligibility reviews
