Requirements

  • Two years of experience as a Social Worker 1 or Forensic Social Worker 1 (commonwealth titles) (must have been employed in a commonwealth social worker job title on September 8, 2008, with continuous commonwealth employment)
  • Two years of experience as a Social Worker 1 or a Forensic Social Worker 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) and a bachelor’s degree in social work or social welfare
  • Two years of professional experience providing direct public or private social work services, and a bachelor’s degree in social work or social welfare
  • A master's degree in social work or social welfare
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
  • Obtain Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) certification within two months of hire and maintain it for the duration of employment in the job.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • Meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Create and coordinate social service programs that support inmate well-being and personal growth
  • Maintain records, prepare reports, and communicate with staff, families, and outside agencies regarding inmate needs
  • Assist with parole planning, facilitate reentry groups, and coordinate care for inmates transitioning to the community
  • Provide continued support to community-placed inmates to ensure ongoing stability
  • Interpret and apply federal, state, departmental, and facility social work policies in daily tasks
  • Investigate and clarify information related to complaints or allegations of human rights violations
