About The Position

Responsible for ensuring that quality, patient centered Social Work services are being provided to patients on a daily basis. Ensure adequate staff coverage is available to provide comprehensive services to patients and their families; support to the multidisciplinary health care team; and intervene with problem resolution on complex cases. Identify and address internal and external barriers that prevent and/or interfere with interventions and treatment plans. Offer support and feedback to staff, as appropriate to maintain professional practice.

Requirements

  • Master of Social Work degree from an accredited School of Social Work.
  • Licensed by the State of Ohio Social Work Board (LSW, LISW, or LISW-S).
  • For employees working in UCMC Psychiatric Services, NCI-APS (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention with Advanced Physical Skills) Certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • 5 years clinical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct supervision for MSW social workers.
  • Works under the guidance and supervision of the Manager.
  • Directs all patient care services including psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, counseling, referrals, and disposition when needed.
  • Assists staff in prioritizing activities, locating resources, and scheduling educational engagements.
  • Recommends strategies to enhance productivity and quality of work and ensures consistent documentation to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains statistical information as required for productivity reports.
  • Assists with scheduling, shift assignment, and reallocation of staff as needed to ensure coverage.
  • Provides staff coverage in the absence of essential staff.
  • Ensures staff know performance expectations and holds them accountable for professional practice.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Establishes and maintains a working environment that supports the RITE Values and assists in Service Recovery.
  • Develops and maintains liaison relationships within the department, other health care professionals and community agencies.
  • Motivates staff to achieve highest level of professional and personal development.
  • Communicates and conveys information to staff that promotes staff involvement and satisfaction.
  • Promotes inter and intra-department communications.
  • Develops and implements education programs for social workers and other multidisciplinary hospital staff; provides instruction and consultation to medical students and residents.
  • Provides an environment that utilizes the core values of standards of practice and ethics.
  • Actively participates in the departments’ Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program.
  • Serves on committees and special projects as assigned by the manager.
  • Assists with the interviewing, selection, orientation, and training of new personnel.
  • Provides counseling and corrective action when appropriate.
  • Monitors turnover and vacancy rate.
  • Completes annual performance evaluations.
  • Assists in the development of the department’s budgets and monitors expenditure.
  • Monitors work hours for payroll; PTO usage and payroll distribution reports.
  • Ensures cost efficiency of care delivery through budget recommendations.
  • Promotes behavioral standards that support the values and ethics of the social work profession.
  • Troubleshoots and mediates patient/family, departmental, community, and staff issues.
  • Participates and supports activities that promote customer satisfaction as evidenced by customer satisfaction survey.
  • Attends meetings, mandatory training and continuing education; submits reports, chart documentation in a timely, complete manner.
  • Co-Leads department team meetings.
  • Identifies the special needs and behaviors of specific patient age groups.
  • Demonstrates competency in addressing the unique age related physical, psychosocial and social needs of patients across the life span.
  • Maintains licensure.
  • Submits proof of renewal and Continuing Education logs.
