About The Position

Franklin County is seeking a confident, mission-driven Social Work Supervisor III to lead a dedicated team responsible for protecting children and strengthening families across our community. This position is assigned to the Adult Services Unit for the Franklin County Department of Social Services. The Adult Services Unit is responsible for the administration of programs and services including Adult Protective Services, Guardianship, Placement, Community Alternatives Program for Disabled Adults, Special Assistance In Home Services, Adult and Family Care Home Monitoring, Aid to the Blind, Representative Payee Services, Adult Day Care, and case management services. The Supervisor serves as a member of the agency leadership team and will manage emergency shelters during times of disaster.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related experience; OR a bachelor’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience; OR a master’s degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience; OR a bachelor’s degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of directly related experience; OR bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of directly related experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of methods and principles of casework supervision and training.
  • Considerable knowledge of social work principles, techniques and practices and their application to specific casework and community problems.
  • Considerable knowledge of behavioral and socioeconomic problems and their treatment and governmental and private organizations and community resources.
  • Considerable knowledge of the laws, regulations and policies which govern social work programs.
  • Ability to supervise, train, or orient lower-level social workers, students, interns, or other staff.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively.
  • Must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising up to 10 staff as they administer programs to Franklin County citizens.
  • Organizing and directing the work of the Adult Services Unit.
  • Assigning and reassigning work responsibilities to staff to keep a balanced workload.
  • Ensuring compliance with law, policy, and social work ethics.
  • Ensuring the quantity and quality of work for individual staff and the unit as a whole.
  • Managing and designing an overall developmental and training program for all Adult Services staff.
  • Assigning training for individual staff to attend outside the agency.
  • Identifying and assessing the educational needs of staff on an ongoing basis.
  • In consultation with the Program Administrator, responsible for the discipline of all employees within the unit.
  • Promoting and interpreting professional standards and ethics of conduct to unit staff and the community.
  • Counseling with each employee on disciplinary matters.
  • Working with the Personnel Technician and Program Administrator in following agency recruitment and selection procedures for the hiring of unit staff.
  • Posting of vacant position job descriptions and recruitment announcements.
  • Consulting with the Program Administrator, Personnel Technician and Director on the selection of personnel.
  • Evaluating the performance of each employee under its direct supervision on an annual basis.
  • Providing ongoing performance appraisal through monthly conferences.
