About The Position

Work in this class involves the supervision of a staff of social Workers that provide direct and/or indirect services to clients. Work supervised is predominantly at the level of Social Worker III and/or Human Services Coordinator III. Employees assign cases to subordinates, coordinate work flow operations, and supervise staff through case review and consultation which requires the provision of substantial and recurring technical direction. Employees are responsible for staff training, resolving problems and ensuring that quality services are provided. Employees may provide input to higher level management on administrative, personnel, and budget issues. Employees' responsibilities may range from a single sub-unit in an agency or institution to multiple service programs in a small agency and may carry a small caseload. Employees report to a higher level supervisor or administrator.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of NC Laws, and policies under which program operates.
  • Knowledge and experience with the judicial system.
  • Ability to teach, plan, organize, and schedule management functions.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of principles, methods, and techniques of social work administration, including a broad knowledge of child welfare services.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Master’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related experience; or a bachelor’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience; or a master’s degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience; or a bachelor’s degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of directly related experience; or a bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid NC Drivers License and acceptable Driving Record

  • Preference will be given to applicants with experience in Child Welfare Protective Services.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises a team of Child Welfare Social Workers.
  • This position is responsible for receiving and investigating reports of suspected child abuse or neglect.
  • Duties include coordinating, implementing, and managing, and supporting all activities that are performed by two after-hours Social Workers and back-up coverage Social Workers during the hours of 4:00pm-8:00am (Monday-Friday).
  • The staff work hours for this position are the after-hours on call social work staff who work when the agency is closed during normal business hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • The supervisor is responsible for ensuring that the front line social workers carry out their functions of protecting children, complying with court orders, North Carolina Child Welfare Statues and laws, Federal Child Welfare Statues and Laws as well as meet the expectations of the county and agency.
  • Due to the nature of child protective services, the employee is required to be knowledgeable about all tasks and expectations within child welfare services and may be expected to perform tasks/responsibilities in other areas of child welfare.
