About The Position

Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency (Wayne Metro) is seeking a Social Work Intern for its Supportive Housing & Homeless program. This unpaid internship provides a generalist social work overview with a focus on nonprofit work. The intern will work closely with families in underserved communities, offering high-quality services in basic needs areas. This role is designed to help the student gain professional skills in case management, advocacy, and community engagement, while learning to work effectively within a team environment. Requirements

  • High school diploma/general education degree (GED) OR a combination of education and experience that is similarly equivalent.
  • Pass Criminal Background check & Drug Screening
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
  • Above average attention to detail
  • Good interpersonal and professional skills including but not limited to professional appearance, tact, punctuality, and dependability.
  • Perform work in a manner that upholds Wayne Metro policies, procedures, and mission.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with organization and maintenance of participant files, ensuring required documentation is complete and properly stored.
  • Support data entry, validation, and quality assurance activities within HMIS, Salesforce, and other program databases.
  • Track program deadlines, including recertifications, inspections, and participant follow-up activities.
  • Assist with preparation of reports, spreadsheets, and program tracking tools.
  • Conduct research on housing resources, rental units, and landlord contacts to support participant housing search efforts.
  • Assist with development of participant, landlord, and staff resource materials.
  • Support quality assurance reviews by identifying missing documentation and data discrepancies.
  • Attend team meetings and participate in special projects related to program implementation and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain confidentiality of participant information and comply with agency policies and procedures.
  • Perform other administrative and program support duties as assigned.
  • Assist TBRA staff with participant onboarding, file preparation, and compliance-related documentation activities.
