About The Position

The Social Studies Teacher (6-9) is responsible for planning, organizing, and presenting instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their cognitive, physical, and social/emotional development in the 21st century. This role requires the ability to differentiate instruction, manage instructional time and student behavior, and utilize various technologies and classroom tools. The teacher will also consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and the community to enhance student learning and monitor student performance.

Requirements

Minimum Bachelor’s degree from an approved education program in subject area
NC Teaching License or have qualifications to obtain a NC Teaching License
Strong background in North Carolina Standard Course of Study/Common Core and Essential Standards
Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
Exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer
See and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids
Hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone
Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors and on the telephone
Exhibit physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height
Bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead
Demonstrate Leadership: Leads in the classroom by taking responsibility for all students’ learning
Demonstrate leadership in the school by working collaboratively with all school personnel to create a professional learning community
Leads the teaching profession by striving to improve the profession
Advocates for schools and students by promoting positive change in policies and practices affecting student learning

Plans instruction appropriate for students by collaborating with colleagues and using a variety of data sources for planning
Uses a variety of instructional methods and techniques that are most effective in meeting the needs of students
Integrates and utilizes technology in instruction by knowing when and how to use technology to maximize student learning
Helps students develop critical thinking and problem solving skills by encouraging students to ask questions, think creatively, and draw conclusions
Helps students work in teams and develop leadership qualities by teaching the importance of cooperation and collaboration
Communicates effectively in ways that are clearly understood by students
Uses a variety of methods to assess what each student has learned by using multiple indicators to evaluate student progress

Responsibilities

Coordinate and direct the activities of the Teacher Assistant, if applicable
