About The Position

This position is for a Long-Term Substitute (LTS) Social Studies Teacher at UDHS, hired through Kelly Services. The role involves instructing students following the district curriculum and procedures, reporting directly to the building Principal, and working cooperatively with other staff, parents, and students. The employment terms are as outlined in the current Collective Bargaining Agreement, including salary and benefits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with valid PA certification
  • PA State Certification in Social Studies, 7-12
  • Proficiency in the use of technology for individual communication and research
  • Proficiency in presentation of technology to enhance small and large student group information & demonstration sessions.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to interface diplomatically with professional contacts
  • Required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls to talk and hear
  • Sit and occasionally be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel and crouch
  • Specific vision abilities, to include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Effective communication, judgmental, planning and human relations skills required to work under periods of stress due to the level of the position responsibility.
  • Act 34 – Criminal History Clearance
  • Act 151 – Child Abuse History Clearance
  • Act 114 - FBI – Fingerprint check
  • Approved physical to be free from Tuberculosis

Responsibilities

  • Follow a continuous program of curriculum development.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
  • Use relevant technology and materials to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
  • Prepare classroom for class activities.
  • Observe and evaluate student’s performance and development.
  • Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments.
  • Be aware of new materials, methodologies, philosophies and innovation, using those which suit the needs of the individual student.
  • Assist in planning student activities, programs, and field trips.
  • Attend required meetings and complete required reports.
  • Consult with parents and other involved personnel concerning each student’s intellectual, social, emotional and physical development.
  • Create and maintain an environment conducive to learning.
