Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Valid New Mexico Secondary (6–12) Education License with a Social Studies Endorsement.
  • Background in history or social sciences.
  • Familiarity with New Mexico’s Social Studies Content Standards and Benchmarks.

Responsibilities

  • Lead core sections of HS US History and the possibility to also teach AP US History, as well as an Advisory period.
  • Utilize the New Mexico Instructional Scopes to prepare culturally and linguistically responsive lessons that build student understanding of key events, concepts, and themes.
  • Foster historical inquiry, civic reasoning, and evidence-based argumentation.
  • Collaborate closely with department colleagues to align curriculum with New Mexico State Standards.
  • Maintain a focus on increasing reading stamina, comprehension, and critical analysis.
  • Provide targeted support for English Learners and students with disabilities.
