About The Position

Project for Pride in Living (PPL) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering low-income individuals and families to become self-reliant through integrated services in housing, employment, and education. We believe in the power of community and the potential of every person. When joining PPL, you become a part of a diverse team whose goal is to assist our residents and communities with the groundwork they need not only to survive but also to thrive. This position is responsible for planning and developing course outlines, presenting the course material to students and evaluating the students’ progress. Courses taught may include U.S. History, World History, Geography, Economics, and Ethnic Studies. This person will join the amazing staff at our LNAS Alternative High School in Minneapolis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in secondary education or equivalent
  • State of Minnesota Teaching License in secondary social studies required
  • Ability to use: MS Word and Outlook
  • Ability to use: Google Workspace

Nice To Haves

  • Training and experience in alternative school setting preferred
  • Training and experience in behavior modification techniques and class management preferred
  • Experience working with diverse at-risk youth population (i.e. ethnic, cultural, economic, etc.)
  • Training and experience in assessments and testing
  • Training and experience with school-to career programs preferred
  • Proficient in a second language (other than English) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Create appropriate learning resources and develop lesson plans
  • Maintain appropriate teaching knowledge and utilize technology in the learning environment
  • Teach classes as designated individually or as part of a team.
  • Vary learning materials and presentation to fit needs of students
  • Participate in team effectiveness and registration process
  • Adhere and enforce school’s standards of behavior on a consistent basis
  • Develop and implement appropriate structure, policies and procedures
  • Establish and implement appropriate social/extra curricula activities
